Stonewall Jackson - Band Details

Stonewall Jackson, 1968.

Formed in 1967 by Terry Froud, Stonewall Jackson had following band members:

  • Chris Meek (Bass)
  • Dave Hacker (Drums)
  • Roger Lovesea (Rhythm)
  • Terry Froud (Lead)
  • Will Peaple (Vocals)

The Band were together from 1967 to 1972 and turned pro in 1972. The band was managed by Timo St. John (aka Tim Stratford), who also managed Junction. Timo also played keyboards in Soul Event.

Stonewall Jackson played mainly at McIlroy's and the Locarno and also toured the UK. They were booked for the 'Radio One Roadshow' to perform live at Bournemouth, but were cancelled at the last minute with a Wolverhampton band taking their place; this band was 'Ambrose Slade', who later became 'Slade'.

Stonewall Jackson cut two unreleased demo recordings at a studio in the Midlands; both tracks 'Come Back Peggy' and 'Lucky' were written by Chris Meek.

Tragedy struck the band when Roger Lovesea, who was out riding on the Marlborough Downs, fell from his horse and was severely injured and sustained brain damage. The Band carried on for a short while, but decided to split in 1972. Sadly Roger Lovesea died in a car crash some years later (1977?).

Stonewall Jackson hope to re-form next year (2011) on the occassion of Will Peaple's 60th birthday celebration (in Highworth), for a one-off perfromance or may be more!
